All I can say is if you have never seen the movie Heat you are missing it and I suggest you go out and rent it today. There are so many great things about this movie that I don’t even know where to start. Heat was written and directed by American film director, screenwriter and producer, Michael Mann. That would be the first great thing about the movie.
The second greatest thing about the movie is Robert De Niro is in it. He plays the role of Neil McCauley, a seasoned thief. De Niro is undeniably awesome, a veteran actor – one of the best – and his acting in this film is no exception. Al Pacino, on the other hand, plays the role of Lt. Vincent Hanna, L.A.P.D. Homicide detective. If you love Al Pacino, you’ll love him in this film. For me, I found his acting to be very similar to most of his dramatic roles. His character gets wide eyed, screams a lot, and in this movie, he is over zealous about his job, so expect a lot more of the same. What is cool; however, and the third greatest thing about this movie is seeing these two actors together. I’m not sure who would be considered top billing but in my opinion, Robert De Niro wins my vote for best acting skills.
Then we have the fourth greatest thing about this movie: Val Kilmer. I have loved watching Val Kilmer in movies ever since I saw him in the 1984 comedy Top Secret! What a hoot! I still laugh when I think about that movie. Anyway, Val Kilmer plays the role of Chris Shiherlis, one of De Niro’s crew members, and he’s good at it. His wife, Charlene, is played by none other than our featured actress this month, Ashley Judd.
Basically, the plot goes like this … Lt Hanna, good guy, is assigned to take down the bad guys, McCauley and his crew. What makes this movie especially exceptional is that Michael Mann does a great job developing balance between the two sides. Both good guy and bad guy are professionals and take great pride in their work and accomplishments. If you are like me, you will be rooting for the bad guys all the way to the end.
This is an action packed movie that will keep you engaged up to the very last scene. All that I have left to say is, Enjoy!
Fun Flick Finds:
1. Have De Niro and Pacino ever been in a movie together? If so, what was the name of the movie.
2. Can you name one actor in this movie, who is not mentioned above, that was in one of the movies reviewed during Matt Damon month?
